What is Self–Publishing?

Self–publishing is the publication of a book, independently from an official third–party publisher. It basically means that YOU, the author are responsible for the entire process of distribution, and marketing of your work.

In today's digital world, traditional printing is being replaced by the pioneering technology of on–screen reading. This is the moment to become a selfpublisher. Since 2009, about 80% of new book releases are self–published. The most famous probably is “Fifty Shades of Grey” by British author E.L. James, which was self–published, before being picked up by Random House Publishing.

Why choose Story2Go?

Until now, formatting, publishing, and marketing required an entire office of programmers, and industry professionals.

Story2Go enables you to do all work related to self–publishing, alone, without any computer training, or programming skills.

Moreover, Story2Go is a platform that provides INTERACTIVE elements to your work. You can now make a comic book, with moving parts, or write a ghost story, with a mobile atmosphere around it's pages. You can create a magazine with pictures reacting to the user's touch, or a family photo album, where your summer vacation comes to life interactively. Take a look at projects created with Story2Go, by pressing the “CREATIONS” tab above.

What is a difference between an e–Book, and an App?

E-Books are compatible with e–Readers. (Amazon Kindle, iBooks, etc.)

Our software is producing files that are readable, and publishable on these devices. Interactivity is dependent upon the supported features of these e–Readers.

Our format is publishable on iBooks, Amazon Kindle, etc.

The Story2Go application is a software of it's own running on tablets, and available for download in the App Store, and the Google Play Store.

It is worth choosing Story2Go, as our format is supporting every type of digital publication available in the Digital Book Stores. Our apps are native applications, which are running smoothly, and without compromises on iOS, and Android products.

What is an ePub?

ePub is a standard format for open eBooks maintained by the International Digital Publishing Forum. An ePub is like a self–contained website– a group of files zipped together into a single package, which ends in the extension .ePub.

iBooks accepts both ePub 3, and ePub 2.

What is an Application?

An application is a program that is designed for the end user. Application software can be divided into two general classes: systems software, and applications software. Applications software include such things as database programs, word processors, web browsers, spreadsheets, etc.

What is an HTML5?

HTML5 is a web–running digital content that can be present in all browsers, in all systems. (Even iOS browsers that do not support flash content.) If you export your publication in this format, Story2Go helps you embed it to your own website. You will receive a URL address, and if you embed it to your website, it will appear there.

How much does it cost?

The publishing of an app is 99 USD per App per Platform. (iOS and Android).

HTML5 is free.

Epub, PDF export are free if your exported document may contain our logo. If you wish to go ad–free, you can subscribe within the application for logo–free export.

What is an Interactive App Book?

Your app book produced in Story2Go is a standalone app, with interactive elements. The sky is the limit in regards to what you are choosing to create within the app. It might be a book, a picturebook, a children's book, a magazine, a cookbook, a photo album, an invitation, a flyer, company reference, CV....

Have a look at the “CREATIONS” tab above for visual examples, or have a look at applications under the “book” category in the iOS App Store, or Google Play Store. You can create them all using Story2Go.

What are iOS App Store, Google Play Store, and Amazon App Store?

App stores are a digital marketplace for applications. Different companies have different stores from where you can download apps to your electronic devices. iOS refers to the format of Apple Apple App Store products, and Android refers to the format of Google Play Store, and Amazon App Store products.

Who will own the rights?

You! Contrary to other digital publishing outlets, we will not publish your work for you, and then give you a percentage. Think of us as a bridge between your completed work, and the release of it in App Stores. We believe that the owner of the rights should be the one who created the object of the copyright. For this reason, we will leave all the rights, and revenue with you, and only ask for a onetime payment, for the book creator app–itself.

Do I need my own account on iOS App Store, Amazon App Store, and Google Play Store?

Yes. This is needed, so the content created by you can be made available in your own App store. This puts you in control of the price, or free availability of your product. To create an account in any of these App stores, you do not need to own a company, or have any special title. You can do it as a private individual. If you need help to create an account in any of these App Stores, we are happy to help. Contact us on this email address: story2go@story2go.com.

How does the app get to your account?

If you do not have an App Store account yet, please see the question above: Do I need my own account in iOS App Store?

Once you have an account for either of these stores, in order to transfer your created app to your account, we will need the following data from you:

Your team Agent Apple ID: (this means the Apple ID of the person who created the account).

Your Team ID: (The unique identifier for the recipient's company or organization. Recipients can find the information in the Your Account pane of Organization Profile accessible from the Developer Member Center on developer.apple.com).

Starting the app

The App starts with a quick registration, following which we send you an e-mail with a confirmation link. Once you have clicked on the link, you will see a short tutorial made of a few slides, aiming to help you understand the optimal use of Story2Go.

After the slides, you will find yourself on the main page of Story2Go, featuring a blank project on the right side of your screen, and a row of four options on the left side. The options will be “NEW”, “OPEN”, “IMPORT”, and “EXPORT/PUBLISH”.

Firstly, please click on “NEW”, and chose if you want your blank project in either landscape or portrait format. You may also chose one of the templates provided by us. Don’t forget that within each category(Presentations, Family etc.) we offer multiple templates.

Secondly, please take a look at “OPEN”. Right after the program’s installation, this section will be empty. However, as you use Story2Go, each of your projects will be automatically available here. Whenever you import files into Story2Go, they will also arrive into this section. Once an imported project has arrived, you can rename it within the program. You need to click on the file, this will select the title. If you click again on this selected title, a new window will jump up, and you will have the ability to rename the file.

Thirdly, please have a look at “IMPORT”. This rubric will be empty as well when you download the program. In order to import a file, you need to go into iTunes, and chose your iPad, in the top right corner. Then, in the bottom left corner click on “APPS”, chose “STORY2GO”, click on “ADD DOCUMENTS”, and chose whichever you wish to add. The file(s) will appear in “IMPORT”.

Fourthly, you will find “EXPORT/PUBLISH”. This is where you can set the target format of your project. If you set either ePub, or PDF you have the ability to set the Aspect Ratio, and the Scale Ratio of the work. Below, you'll see two buttons. “Export”, and “Export and open in iBooks”. The “Export” button allows you to find your completed work in the iTunes Library. If you click on the “Export and Open in iTunes” button, you'll see a window that says: “Open in iBooks”, and you can see a preview of what your work will look like.

New project

Now, that we spoke of the interface, and basic features of the software, let’s have a look at how to start a NEW PROJECT. You may find the “+” sign in the top-left corner. Once you click on it, it gives you the option to add “NEW PAGE”, “IMAGE”, or “TEXT BOX”.

“NEW PAGE” will open a new blank page within your project, and will be the last page in line.

If you add a “TEXT BOX”, you can rotate, move, position, or resize it directly by touching it. If you want to add a large chunk of text, you can use any free writing or note-taking software from App Store(ex.iEditor). You can also copy and paste any text from your browser. Once you’ve clicked “ADD TEXT BOX”, another kind of text box also appears(with a BRUSH). Here you can chose your font type, color, and size.

If you click “ADD IMAGE”, you’ll need to select the file in your iTunes, and import it in the program. You can also import an image as background. The icon of switching images by arrows will let you replace your chosen image with another one anytime.

Once you are in the midst of working on your project, Story2Go’s interface will be designed as follows:
-In the bottom-left corner, you will find “OBJECTS”.
If you click on “OBJECTS”, you will see a list of “LAYERS”. Every layer is a separate, movable part of the whole picture. Within the “OBJECTS” page, with “+” you can add further layers.
-The symbol showing overlapping pages means “DUPLICATE”.
This feature is useful, if for example you have set a particular font size, or color for a layer, and wish to apply the same conditions to the other layers. It’s much quicker, and more-energy efficient to simply duplicate the layer, rather than redo the same conditions.
-There is a “RECYCLE BIN” provided, which always recycles the highlighted layer.
-The “EYE” icon makes the given layer visible/invisible.
-The “UP AND DOWN ARROWS” will create the visual order.
If your layers are overlapping, than these arrows will define what is in the front, and what is in the back.

Effects

To the right from the objects bar, you will find “EFFECTS”.

-To open up “EFFECTS”, you first need to select a layer within the project.
-If you click on the “+” button, effects and sequences of effects will become available. You can add any number of them.
-The order you add the effects in, matters. They will be implemented from left to right, on the selected layer.
-We call a series of effects, a “SEQUENCE”.
-You can also add more than one sequences of effects to a given layer.
-If you press the “EFFECTS SEQUENCES” button, you get a control interface of your sequence.
“REPEAT COUNT” will control the number of repetitions within your sequence.
-“PLAY SHOTS” refers to the number of times a sequence can play.
-“TRIGGERS” are catalysts, that will start your sequence. They can start from touch, or start from page opening. You can also not select a trigger, but use start effect in “EFFECTS”.

Types of effects

Delay: Allows you to set how many seconds you would like the sequence to keep playing.

Scale To: Allows you to scale up or down an image, by giving a scale factor. (The original size is referred to as 1.0) You can also set the duration of the scale in seconds.

Scale By: It allows you to multiply or divide further what you have set the scale to be, always exponentially. You can also set the duration of the scale in seconds.

Move To: Allows you to set where you want to push your layer to. The X and Y axis are the bottom left corner of the 4:3 format. (Parameters to set: Ease type, Duration, X-Y)

Move By: Allows you to set the X and Y coordinates you want to arrive to, and give the time you want it to happen by. (Parameters to set: Parameters to set: Ease type, Duration, X-Y)

Fade In: You can get the opacity to zero, and then set a time until which the layer can reach it’s maximal opacity back, as if it would be invisible one moment, and then visible the next.

Fade Out: You can set the time during which opacity gets back to zero. (As if the layer would become invisible)

Opacity: You can set up a given opacity to reach.

Rotate To: You can set the degrees to which you want to rotate to, during a given time.

Rotate By: The degrees you set here add onto as a second set of rotation after the first is complete.

Move By: Allows you to set the X and Y coordinates you want to arrive to, and give the time you want it to happen by. (Parameters to set: Parameters to set: Ease type, Duration, X-Y)

Start Effect: You can set a point where a sequence starts within your sequence. (For example if your sequence is someone kicking a football, the start effect would be the moment of impact when the players foot reaches the ball.)

Audio: Offers you to chose an audio type from simple, narration, or forced narration.

Breakpoint: Breakpoints will be coordinates, where your layer may stop, until a trigger is received to continue.

Pages

Next to the “EFFECTS” button, there is a simple “PAGE-TURNING TOOL”.

Next to the page-turning tool, there is “PAGES”.

“ADD PAGE” will add a page at the end of the project.

“REORDER” allows you to select a page, and pick which page number you wish to reorder it.

“DUPLICATE” Duplicates selected page. The last page will be the duplicate.

“DELETE” will remove the selected page.

Preview

In the upper right corner, there is a button called “PREVIEW”. You may watch your project as if it was done, anytime.

Next to the preview button is the “TRANSITION SELECTOR”. It allows you to chose transitions before the next page appears.
